The study space at the Guille-Allès Library has just been given a major boost, thanks to the arrival of a brand-new study pod, kindly sponsored by Collenette Jones.

The pod has been installed in the Hayward Room, the quiet study area on the Library’s second floor. Earlier this year, the Hayward Room underwent a significant refurbishment through the support of the Social Investment Fund and the John Ramplin Trust – and now the Library is progressing to the next stage of the upgrade by installing state-of-the-art new furniture.

Collenette Jones’s pod is the second to arrive, joining one already donated by Officemaker, who have supplied all the new furniture. Each pod consists of a bespoke, modern study table and chairs with built-in lighting and charging ports, designed to create a quiet and comfortable environment for study or remote working. Both pods are proving extremely popular with the more than 100 students, professionals, and lifelong learners who make use of the Library’s study space each week.

Chris Jordan, the Library’s Head of Operations, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome the arrival of this new study pod, and we’re deeply grateful to Collenette Jones for making it possible. It’s a big step forward in our ambition to create a world-class learning space for the whole community.

“Since the Hayward Room was refurbished earlier this year, usage has continued to rise, and demand for our study space has never been higher. We are still seeking sponsorship for more pods, with the goal of eventually upgrading all of our somewhat ageing furniture.

“As well as being a huge improvement, once we have all the pods in place the capacity of the Hayward Room will more than double, ensuring that everyone who needs a quiet place to work can find one. The result will be a top-quality learning space that all Islanders can enjoy, free of charge, all year round.”

Colin Jeffreys from Collenette Jones said, “Libraries are more than buildings filled with books – they’re gateways to opportunity, imagination, and lifelong learning. At Collenette Jones, we believe in community, and empowering people through knowledge. By sponsoring this learning pod, we’re investing in a space where ideas can flourish, knowledge can grow, and every member of our community can feel empowered to learn, explore, and thrive. We’re proud to support a space that reflects our values and helps to build a stronger, more connected Guernsey.”
