The Association of Guernsey Charities (AGC) has moved out of its offices to cut costs and use its funding more “strategically”.

On Wednesday last week members of the Light Blues Club – the new members’ section of Guernsey and Alderney’s Freemasons – helped to vacate the AGC’s offices in the Cobo Community Centre.

A spokesperson for the AGC said it chose to do this so the charity could cut costs and use the saved money to better support its members.

Matt Tostevin, Luke Vaudin, John Bell and Steve Byrne – members of the Light Blues Club – helped to move much of the AGC’s equipment and archive material to the GSPCA where it is now safely stored.

Steve Byrne, who is also Director of the Association of Guernsey Charities and GSPCA Manager, said: “The Association of Guernsey Charities is always looking at ways to ensure that funds are used as effectively as possible for the benefit of our member charities, and this move is part of that commitment.

“We are also very grateful to the Cobo Community Centre for being such a welcoming home to the AGC over the years.

“We are sure it will continue to be a fantastic venue for training sessions, meetings and events for charities and community groups across the island.”

The AGC represents and supports over 300 charities in Guernsey and Alderney.

Karen Solway, an AGC member of staff, also helped move the AGC out of the office it had used for a number of years.

She coordinated the move and made sure everything ran smoothly.

Mr Byrne added: “A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the move possible. We are very grateful to Matt, Luke, John and Karen for giving up their time to assist, and to Luke for kindly providing his trailer.

“We would also like to thank the GSPCA team for providing a van and storage space which has been a tremendous help.

“It was wonderful to see volunteers coming together to help another charity, demonstrating the strong community spirit that exists within Guernsey. Thank you to everyone involved.”

After the relocation, the volunteers were shown around the GSPCA to see the vital work it carries out and the progress being made on the GSPCA’s new wildlife hospital.
