The Jersey Homes Trust will not be increasing rents during the Coronavirus epidemic.

Announcing the decision, which was taken by Trustees this morning, JHT Chairman Michael Van Neste said: ‘As Jersey’s largest independent provider of social rented accommodation we recognise that many of our tenants will be suffering severe hardship at this time and probably for many months to come. We will not, therefore, be increasing rents whilst the crisis continues.’

Mr Van Neste added that in line with recent Government directives, the JHT will remain sympathetic in respect of rental arrears.

‘I would, however, urge any of our tenants who may be struggling financially at this difficult time to seek advice from our Managers regarding any problems with paying their rent at the earliest opportunity. We are here to offer advice.’

The Jersey Homes Trust was set up in 1995 to provide social rented homes for Island residents. It now owns and manages 839 homes spread over 24 estates.
