Banjo grilling for Pottery boss

Wednesday 26 August 2015

Jersey Pottery Director Dominic Jones will be talking about his careers in law, finance and hospitality in the latest Network Jersey interview next month.

The interview, with former JEP journalist Harry McRandle, will be at the Jersey Pottery’s Banjo Restaurant on Thursday 24 September - and will be raising money for Brighter Futures.

In what has been a varied career, Mr Jones started out as a lawyer and gained entry to both the English and Paris Bars. He spent time with Magic Circle law firm Slaughter & May and later moved into corporate finance with top investment bankers Morgan Stanley.

He later joined Jersey firm Mourant, where he was a partner of Mourant Equity Compensation Solutions. He also held senior group board positions at leading European private equity fund administrators IPES and Alter Domus.

He joined the family business, Jersey Pottery, as an executive director five years ago. He is one of the four Jones’ brothers who are executive directors and their sister is a non-exec. During The Interview, he will explain how the business has evolved over the decades to respond to changes in demands and tastes.

In fact, he now describes the group as a "digital business" as it manufactures products that it sells online around the globe. It also uses a highly sophisticated digital management tool that constantly provides up to date information on all areas of activity.

However, Mr Jones remains active in finance, holding board positions with funds and investment management businesses, including Ravenscroft.

His voluntary work includes being a council member of the National Trust of Jersey as well as being chairman of the Board of Governors of Rouge Bouillon School and he has clear views on the type of approach the Island needs to adopt to fill a potential future skills gap.

The event, which is sponsored by telecom business Airtel-Vodafone, will run from 5.30 pm until 8 pm and tickets, which include drinks and canapes before The Interview, are £15. They can be purchased online at the www.networkjerseyevents.com website.
