Bar raised again in the Mourant Ozannes Marathon Relay Race

Thursday 08 October 2015

Record entries for 'Team Mourant Ozannes' in this year's marathon relay held yesterday, 4 October, contributed to the firm's success in the event's 'Law Cup' competition, taking home both the coveted trophy as well as second place.

Mourant Ozannes has sponsored the popular Jersey Marathon Relay for six years and in that time has watched the event go from strength to strength.

The race is a firm fixture on Mourant Ozannes' sports and social calendar and this year 13 staff teams, totalling 65 runners, were entered from both the Guernsey and Jersey offices.

The Corporate Cup scheme was introduced in 2013 to encourage friendly competition among teams entering from the same industry sector. First law firm team to cross the line and seventh team overall comprised runners from Mourant Ozannes' IT department, who completed the course in just over 3 hours, netting the prestigious 'Law Cup' trophy. Guernsey runners from the firm's corporate practice were also the second legal team home 20 minutes after their colleagues.

In addition to the team entries, solo participant and first time marathon runner Aaron O'Toole, who works as a Marketing Assistant in the firm's Jersey office, successfully completed the course in three hours 35 minutes.

Jersey managing partner Jonathan Speck said: "It's a pleasure to support such a high profile and successful event; we're proud to sponsor the Relay Race each year. You don't have to be a serious runner to take part and every year it's great to witness hundreds of teams celebrating their achievements together at the finish line.

"Of course this year there was the added bonus of achieving first and second places in the Law Cup and planning is already underway for 2016 when I'm sure we will be looking to retain the title!"

A total of 258 teams completed the Mourant Ozannes Marathon Relay Race this year and the bar was raised again with the winning team smashing the course record and finishing in a time of just two hours 27 minutes.
