Celebration of students’ achievements at first Degree Gala Dinner

Friday 23 October 2015

Freshers have been getting a taste of university life in Jersey.

Jersey International Business School marked its fourth degree intake with a Degree Gala Dinner at the Pomme D’Or hotel, last Friday attended by over 50 students, alumni, lecturers and staff.

The University Centre now has 24 alumni of the BSc (Hons) International Financial Services degree, including 15 who will graduate on Friday 30 October.

The gala dinner was an opportunity for those alumni to share their experiences with the 23 students who commenced the degree at the beginning of the month, and for all staff and lecturers to celebrate the success of the degree since it was launched in April 2012.

The BSc (Hons) International Financial Services degree was designed by Jersey International Business School in conjunction with the financial services industry and has grown rapidly since 2012, cementing a reputation as a local high-quality further education option. The degree is awarded by The University of Buckingham and is studied full-time over two years targeted at both school leavers (18-21 years) and mature students.

Whilst the degree study takes place in the first half of the week, there is the opportunity to work in the latter half of the week, gaining paid work experience through the highly successful Undergraduate Employment Programme with world-class organisations such as Sanne, Deutsche Bank, HSBC, RBS International and UBS.

Gavin Fraser, Director at the business school, addressed the audience and welcomed all of the students and praised the wonderful turnout, especially the JIBS Alumni, who have been a credit to themselves and JIBS with their enthusiasm, support and career successes to date. He also praised the achievements of this year’s graduating cohort on the achievement of ten 2nd class Honours, eight at the Higher level, and four 1st Class Honour awards – a remarkable achievement.

This was followed by Katie McGinty, the student representative for her cohort since 2013, who thanked all staff and lecturers for their effort and dedication on behalf of the graduands and wished the new students all the best as they begin their university journey with Jersey International Business School.

Applications are now being accepted for October 2016 and are made directly to Jersey International Business School in addition to, and separately from, UCAS applications.
