A first for Jersey funeral care

Thursday 09 January 2014

Gary Tye of De Gruchy’s Funeral Care is the first local funeral director to receive a Diploma in Funeral Arranging and Administration from the National Association of Funeral Directors.

Mr Tye received his diploma at a graduation ceremony held at Birmingham City University, which endorses the qualification. He said he was very pleased to become the first funeral director in the Island to receive the qualification.

"Studying for the diploma was difficult at times, with no tutors available locally most of my study was done by distance learning, with a few trips to the UK for study lessons. I have two young girls, so juggling family, work and studying was not easy. On achieving this qualification I have be able to enhance my knowledge on best practice, policies and procedures within funeral care and this, in turn, this will enable us at De Gruchy’s to provide the best quality of service possible for the families," he said.

De Gruchy's Funeral Care is part of the Channel Islands Co-operative Society, and is a member of the National Association of Funeral Directors and the Funeral Planning Authority.
