Jersey Post announces launch of further 24/7 parcel locker bank

Thursday 01 October 2015

Online shoppers will be pleased to know that more secure parcel lockers have been installed on the outskirts of town.

Jersey Post have fitted some at the Powerhouse Retail Park on Queen's Road and are planning to put in more in other parts of the Island.

There are now over 450 lockers available across the Island, with banks already situated at the Broad Street Post Office, Postal Headquarters at Rue des Pres and at the General Hospital. Over the next few months and into the first half of 2016 further installations will open at Five Oaks, St Peter and Red Houses, St Brelade taking the total number of lockers to over 700.

Parcel lockers have been available across Europe for some time but these are the first to be installed in the Channel Islands as part of Jersey Post’s long term strategy to modernise the way its customers can access its services. Customers can elect to have their packets and parcels delivered to a designated bank of lockers and once they have been notified of a delivery, can collect them at a time and place that suits them.

The latest installation at the Powerhouse Retail Park will pave the way to improved facilities for customers of Jersey Electricity’s Powerhouse retail store and B&Q. In the New Year there are plans to expand the Powerhouse’s click and collect service so that customers can elect to have certain items delivered to the parcel lockers to collect at their own convenience.

Tim Brown, CEO of Jersey Post said: “The Powerhouse Retail Park site is the perfect convenient collection point for those people who live in the north of the Island as it is on the main route both in and out of town. It is also an opportunity for us to work in partnership with the Powerhouse, another customer centric local business to provide benefits that will enhance their customer experience. It is a great example of how Jersey Post is embracing the growing trend towards online shopping, enabling a local retailer to increase its digital consumer service by providing a convenient local delivery solution.”

Tony Ronayne of Jersey Electricity said: “This initiative will bring more people to the Queen’s Road Retail Park and increase footfall to the Powerhouse. It also provides us with an opportunity to enhance our online shopping capability; we are always looking for ways to make the customer experience as convenient as possible and we see the locker bank as an opportunity to expand our click and collect service for certain products.”

Each locker bank takes up to 12 weeks to install, from initial order with the manufacturer, through the planning application process and allowing for thorough testing. Jersey Post’s strategy is to introduce parcel lockers in the central, eastern and western parts of the Island over the next nine months in response to customer feedback and provide alternative collection points that are available 24/7.
