JFSC raises nearly £2,000 in two months for Jersey Mencap

Staff members at the Jersey Financial Services Commission (JFSC) have raised nearly £2,000 pounds in two months for local charity Jersey Mencap.

JFSC nominated Jersey Mencap as its annual charity in April and has so far undertaken a number of activities to raise funds to help support children and adults with learning disabilities.

A group of ten staff members took part in the Jersey Mencap South Coastal walk in May and raised more than £900 in donations for their efforts.

A total of £700 was also raised by staff to purchase a tool shed for the charity’s Pond Project on Rozel Hill. Members from both the JFSC’s Policy and Financial Crime Policy divisions spent a morning laying concrete for its foundations and also helped clear overgrown footpaths, woodland and marshland areas of the site. It’s planned that JFSC employees will return to the Pond Project in July to build the shed.

The JFSC also held a Green Week from June 20-24 to raise awareness internally about environmental issues. Donations gathered through a ‘green-themed’ cake sale and sponsored team bike-a-thon brought the total raised to date for Jersey Mencap to £1,947.

JFSC Chief Operating Officer, Mike Jeacock said: “It’s fantastic that we have raised nearly £2,000 in less than two months for Jersey Mencap, our chosen charity for 2016. It’s a significant amount to have raised in a short period of time and it’s a credit to the staff that they have come together and made these fundraising activities happen. We have many more planned for the rest of the year so we are set to raise considerable funds for a very worthwhile cause.”
