Law firm boosts property team with new appointment

Jersey law firm Benest & Syvret has appointed solicitor Abigail Watkins to its property team.

Mrs Watkins has developed an in-depth knowledge of the local property market, having worked both for law firms and a local property agent.

Advocate Philip Syvret, partner of Benest & Syvret, said they were delighted that Mrs Watkins has joined the firm.

“She brings with her a wealth of experience in the Jersey residential and commercial property market.  In particular her skills in respect of commercial property management, lease and rental renewals will expand the services that Benest & Syvret are able to provide.  We find that so often negotiations in respect of new or revised leasehold arrangements require legal advice, and the ability to provide in house advice to clients on all aspects of leasehold transactions will be a considerable benefit,” he said.

A graduate of De Montfort University, she began her career at Moss Solicitors in Loughborough where she specialised in residential and commercial leases. Having moved to Jersey in 1998, Mr. Watkins continued to develop her knowledge of complex property matters including real estate trust administration, JPUT structures for large UK property investors, share transfer transactions and commercial property sale and lease agreements. She is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives.

She said: “I am very pleased to be joining Benest & Syvret, which is recognised as one of the leading property firms in the Island. I know the team here and I am really looking forward to working with them and helping the business to grow further. I think the experience I have gained by managing commercial property portfolios and managing all aspects of sales and leasing will bring a valuable aspect to the service we can provide our clients.”
