HSBC introduces new menopause policy

Friday 01 September 2023

HSBC has introduced a new policy across its Channel Islands and Isle of Man offices which it hopes will provide better support for those going through menopause.

Under the new policy, employees will have more access to support and workplace adjustments.

The company has also made an online Menopause Awareness course available to employees to raise awareness and decrease the stigma associated with seeking support for symptoms.

The official implementation of the new policy follows on from HSBC Channel Islands and Isle of Man signing up to the ‘51 Employers Pledge’ at the end of last year.

Named after the average age at which a woman enters menopause, the pledge was an initial commitment to implement measures that support colleagues experiencing menopause.

Commenting on the policy, Head of HR Elvina Aghajanyan said: “We are absolutely committed to developing a workplace culture that supports colleagues experiencing the menopause in order for them to feel confident to raise issues about their symptoms and ask for reasonable adjustments in the workplace."

"I’m really pleased that we can now officially introduce our new policy, which will help raise awareness, encourage open conversations and provide educational opportunities for all our colleagues around the menopause, all of which will ultimately create an inclusive and supportive environment," she added.

HSBC's policy makes it easier for those experiencing the menopause to seek support in the workplace.

It comes after HSBC employees took part in a workshop earlier this year in which participants were able to trial a device called the 'Menovest', which stimulates the feeling of hot flushes – a common menopause symptom.
