First Actuary is to sponsor the Jersey Triathlon Club's team of ten triathletes for the 2015 Natwest Island Games taking place in the Island this summer.

Jersey’s team includes a mixture of youth and experience with 2006 Commonwealth Games triathlete Tim Rogers returning to international competition alongside 19-year-old Demri Mitchell who is representing the Island for the first time.

Professional Ironman triathlete and 2013 Commonwealth Games athlete Dan Halksworth returns as favourite to win his first Island Games triathlon gold medal having taken silver on his triathlon debut at the 2007 Games in Rhodes.

Meanwhile a strong Jersey ladies team is led by Jenny O’Brien who is hoping to improve on her fourth place finish at the last games in Bermuda with Jo Gorrod and Sam Lee both also strong medal prospects.

Managing director of First Actuary David Holmes said: “First Actuary is delighted to continue our support of Jersey’s Island Games triathlon team which started with the games in Bermuda two years ago. Whilst athletes don’t have the expense of travel for this home games, at this elite level the costs of training and preparation are significant and it is great to be able to support what should be a strong event for our local athletes.”

Chairman of Jersey Triathlon Club Simon Roderick said: "The strength of the team we have selected for this home games demonstrates the quality and depth of local triathlon talent which the club has developed. The indications from training so far show that Jersey athletes have a chance to dominate the podium on home soil.”

The Island Games triathlon takes place on the opening weekend of the Games and consists of a continuous race starting with a 1,500 m swim in St Aubin’s bay followed by a 40 km cycle, starting and finishing at Jardins de la Mare, and a final 10 km run.
