A team from Standard Bank Offshore has struck gold at one of the world’s leading compliance awards.

The bank’s compliance team was named ‘Best Financial Sanctions Team for Regulated Firms’ at the recent Compliance Register Platinum Awards ceremony in London.

Jersey-based Compliance Officer Samantha Garrett was also named the ‘Outstanding Young Compliance Professional’.

It was the third year in a row that Standard Bank has won at the awards ceremony, which recognises exemplary service to compliance and regulation.

Seán Flanagan, Head of Compliance for The Offshore Group, said: "Once again, it was a memorable evening for Standard Bank at the Compliance Register Platinum Awards. The bank’s performance across the Group is built on the foundations of excellence in compliance so it is heartening to receive confirmation that we are doing a good job at all levels. It is especially pleasing to see Samantha recognised for her outstanding contribution. Compliance is a rewarding career for anyone with passion, energy and commitment."

Will Thorp, Chief Executive of Standard Bank in Jersey, said: "This has been another excellent year for the compliance team and their awards are thoroughly deserved. They are a further affirmation of the strength of Standard Bank Offshore’s proposition and ability to deliver on our commitment to be leading Africa-focused offshore wealth manager."

The Compliance Register promotes excellence in regulatory compliance and regulation globally with members based in most of the world’s leading financial centres as well as across the UK. The awards were established in 2004 and are designed to strengthen best practice in the financial services sector, reward excellence and help to reduce the likelihood of future financial crises. The 12th annual awards ceremony was held on 19 November at the Lancaster Hotel in London.
