Window of opportunity for local students

Monday 12 January 2015

One lucky young designer is going to be given a shop window on King Street to show off their talent.

Students going to next week’s Jersey Skills Show will be given the chance to create an Easter-themed window scene for Voisins Department Store that will stay on display for two weeks during the Spring.

Voisins Department Store Head of Marketing Emily Moore said: “This is an exciting opportunity for all budding designers to create a window display which the winner will then be able to bring to life in one of our King Street windows. This will be a valuable learning experience introducing students to the concept of thinking about the ways in which artistic designs can also showcase products in an appealing manner to drive sales.”

Those browsing at the shop’s stand at the event at Fort Regent next Friday and Saturday will also get to learn what jobs there are within retail and what courses they can go on.

The show being run for the first time by Careers Jersey will give everyone a chance to try their hand at different skills relating to different careers.

Event organiser Sophie Winter said: “The Jersey Skills Show is a great opportunity for attendees to explore a wide range of industries from construction to health and care, hospitality to retail and beauty, there’s something there for everyone. Attendees can visit a variety of interactive areas that will showcase a variety of skills including a crime scene, carpentry and engineering, accident and emergency, cocktail making, media and much more.”

The free event is open to students only on Friday and from 11 am to 4 pm on Saturday for anyone else who wants to speak to local employers and find out what skills and career opportunities there are on offer in the Island.
