A world-record holding, high-speed endurance boat will be making its way to Jersey at the start of June and Islanders have two chances to win a trip on board.

The owner and endurance team of Thunder Child II are preparing to attempt the London to Monaco UIM (world water speed) endurance record and hope to make the most of their trial routes by involving local communities and raising funds for charity. The team will be running a trial from Cork to Jersey during the week of the 5 June 2022 and are offering Islanders two chances to win a trip for two around Jersey – with all donations going towards Jersey Hospice Care.

Guess the time, online competition

To enter online, head to 54knots.com and guess the time it will take Thunder Child II to travel from Cork to Jersey. Entries close 30 minutes before cast off from Cork and the winner (the closest time to the completion of the course) will be notified directly. This is a free to enter competition, with entrants simply encouraged to make a donation towards Jersey Hospice Care.

Raffle at the Jersey Boat Show

To enter in person, Jersey Hospice Care will be running a raffle from the Barclays tent at the Jersey Boat Show on Friday 10 June (in the afternoon only) and all day Saturday 11 June. Tickets are £5 each and the winner will be drawn at random and contacted directly on Monday 13 June. Entrants must be 18 years old or over, full terms and conditions apply.

The winner of each competition can nominate two people to board Thunder Child II and experience a high-speed trip around Jersey – potentially making a new around the Island record. Entrants are asked to note that prize winners must be physically fit (with no spinal issues) and over 16 years of age.

Nick Ogden, owner of Thunder Child II, said: “As the first week of June approaches, we are raring to go for our next challenge and to hopefully raise some substantial funds for such a vital local charity as Jersey Hospice Care. We’re delighted to being offering two chances to board Thunder Child II and hope lots of people will get involved.”

Richard Tribe, Head of Fundraising at Jersey Hospice Care, said: “We are very grateful to Nick and his endurance team for supporting Hospice with such a generous initiative. A trip on Thunder Child II really is a once in a life-time opportunity! Hospice is dedicated to providing personalised care to each patient and supporting those who are close to them - every entry or donation will go towards helping our patients live life to the full and make each day count.”
