Youth hostel gifted £500 worth of "essential" food vouchers

Wednesday 28 September 2022

A charity providing safe accommodation for 18 to 25-year-olds who would otherwise be at risk of homelessness has been gifted £500 in food vouchers to help top up its "depleted" in-house food bank.

Jersey Rotary Club de la Manche made the generous donation of Alliance vouchers to the Jersey Association of Youth and Friendship (JAYF) after learning the hostel provider was in difficulty helping its clients with "basic needs for day to day living".

JAYF currently runs five hostels with a total of 29 residents.

The vouchers will be of immediate use to the Association's residents who, being unable to draw essential provisions from our very limited and much depleted stock, will now be able to be issued, subject to individual need, with vouchers donated by Rotary Club de la Manche. The Jersey Association of Youth & Friendship is extremely grateful." said JAYF Service Manager Emma Roberts.

Rotary Club de la Manche's Paul Hesten thanked Alliance for their help with the project.

"As with previous projects, Andrew Bagot of Alliance has always assisted us in any way possible and we are pleased that JAYF residents will, at least for a short period, be able to rely on the vouchers (0f £5 and £20 value) for their basic needs for day to day living," he said.

Members of Rotary Club de la Manche "strive to make a difference in the local community and internationally through a multitude of projects and activities". Anyone wishing to join the club can contact tinapalmerjersey@gmail.com.>
