Apple lovers in for a treat this weekend

Friday 07 October 2016

The Jersey Cider Festival is a must for all apple admirers and this year's event takes place at the weekend at the Hamptonne Country Life Museum.

La Faîs’sie d’Cidre brings together communities, volunteers and of course apple and cider experts to create a terrific Jersey experience for all the family.

Community events curator Nicky Lucas said: "Cider was the staple diet in Jersey families for generations in that it was the drink that everyone had at mealtimes. Cider has lost some of its hold on the Island since those days, but it is still well loved by a lot of people and Jersey has a rich history of cider production. The Cider Festival aims to be fun, but also to show how it was made, why it was so popular and why it played such an important part in the daily lives of so many Jersey people.

"There will be cider making, using an old press and a horse to help crush the apples and altogether it promises to be a really enjoyable day out for the family."

It’s not all about the cider  as there will be live music, entertainers, creative activities for children, dance, competitions, poetry, Genuine Jersey stalls, living history and great food on offer with opening times 10am-7pm on Saturday and 10am - 5pm on Sunday.

There will be a free shuttle bus running from Liberation station to the venue all day and there is plenty of parking at Hamptonne Country Life Museum.

Ms Lucas said: "This has become a real favourite festival for people in Jersey in the Autumn and we can promise everyone who comes a lovely community day out, with lots of cider making thrown in."
