Teen makes a splash with lifeboat and hospice raffle

Saturday 25 July 2020

A Beaulieu student is making a splash on the fundraising scene, aiming to tackle 30 bays in 30 days and organising a raffle to help Jersey Hospice and the Jersey Lifeboat Association.

Year 10 student Charlotte Harman explained that “the idea of doing a raffle came round as I wanted to give back to the charities who have been affected due to the current pandemic due to a reduction in donations and also not being able to stage events.”

The raffle features prizes varying from a flight in a bi-plane to Thai boxing vouchers to a ride in a limo to an event worth £200.

Talking about her passion for the charities, Charlotte said: “The JILA means a lot to me as I spend a lot of time on the water in my family's boat and also swimming, and also know how much other water users rely on their services.

“Jersey Hospice Care provides care and support at a time in people’s lives when they may be really struggling and need professional and expert care from the Hospice.”

Charlotte has also been raising money through doing the ’30 Bays in 30 Days challenge’ (of which she has completed 24 so far), as well as the virtual triathlon.

Speaking about the response to the raffle, Charlotte said she was surprised and amazed by the generosity of local businesses and individuals, having raised around £350 from the raffle alone, and £500 in total when factoring in her own fundraising efforts.

The draw will take place virtually on 16th August at 18.00, and everyone who buys tickets will be added to a Facebook group for the draw.

Tickets can be purchased by emailing charlieharman7@gmail.com. One strip is £2, three strips are £5, and six strips are £10.
