Drivers warned about "illegal rat run"

Thursday 17 June 2021

St. Peter's Chef de Police is reminding drivers not to go down Rue des Vignes after officers caught more than 20 vehicles using the 'no through' road illegally in just two hours.

Signs at both ends of Rue des Vignes indicate the road is only to be used for access to premises with 'no through road' written on the tarmac.

Joao Camara, St. Peter's Chef de Police, said that while the road has always been used illegally as a "rat run", the number of drivers using the road has increased "dramatically" recently as a result of works on Route de Beaumont and the temporary traffic lights installed at the end of Mont Fallu.

He said residents of the area had contacted the Honorary Police about the traffic. Officers went to Rue des Vignes on Monday and Tuesday and caught over 20 vehicles in a two-hour period.

All will have to attend the Parish Hall for contravening the instruction not to access the road.

Mr Camara said: "St. Peter will continue to monitor the road on a regular basis until the completion of the road works and so I would respectfully request that drivers refrain from using Rue de Vignes as failure to do so will also require them to attend a Parish Hall Enquiry."
