A local firefighter has successfully battled through temperatures of up to 38 degrees to smash a 565km cycle challenge from London to the Eiffel Tower in aid of others in his profession dealing with life-changing injuries or events.
Station Commander Ryan Hall’s journey, which started from Blackheath in the heart of London, took four days and finished on Saturday.
He cycled between seven and nine hours per day on some of the hottest days of the year, with temperatures ranging from 32 to 38 degrees.
His goal was to raise £2,000 for The Firefighters Charity.
“The charity provides a lifetime of crucial support to the fire and rescue service community, whether that is dealing with a life-changing injury, illness, or an unexpected curve ball thrown up by life,” Mr Hall explained on his JustGiving fundraising page.
Help offered by the charity includes mental and physical health support, nursing services, assistance navigating retirement, and support for families.
With more than £1,200 pledged by 60 supporters, Mr Hall is more than 60% of the way towards his target and is continuing to fundraise until 30 September.
