Get in the groove for charity

Tuesday 07 June 2016

Groove is definitely in the heart this year when Greve de Lecq’s micro-festival returns in August to support the local fight against heart disease.

Around one in four Islanders die each year of heart and circulatory conditions like heart attacks and stroke and your tickets for this summer’s Groove De Lecq will be helping to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation Jersey Branch.

The little festival in the Moulin De Lecq meadows has been providing a platform for local artists and musicians to perform since 2011 and this year organisers are looking for magicians, street performers and entertainers to join the line-up on Saturday 6 August.

They are also introducing some new areas, bars and eateries as well as a hidden Queen of Hearts Tea Party.

Festival Manager Beth Gallichan said: “We are extremely proud of Groove and what it does for the community - as an ethically produced festival, Islanders are at the heart of everything we do. We have listened to feedback from previous events and thanks to the support of our volunteers and sponsors at iQ, we are excited to be offering transport to and from the festival for all ticket holders, introducing new bars and eateries with a fantastic variety of local produce to help reduce waiting time for hungry festival goers, new and exciting areas to be discovered within the grounds and most importantly - new stages for local talent.”

The festival has raised over £100,000 for local charities including Autism Jersey and Headway and this year Groove is offering local charities a chance to enjoy a free pitch at the festival to raise awareness and/or fundraise for their own causes.

It will be up to the Groove panel to decide which musicians, charities and street performers will be grooving at this year’s festival and you have until 24 June to apply to be a part of it.

If you are musician or part of a band wanting to perform, upload a video to the Groove Facebook page (@GrooveDeLecq) using the hashtags #Groove2016 #IWantToGroove.

The festival kicks off at 12 pm and you can get your tickets here
