Play to premiere in Jersey

Tuesday 28 October 2014

You may have to battle for tickets to see the world premiere of a new Jersey play that’s taking to the stage from Thursday.

The opening performance of The Great Warrior - the Jersey Arts Centre's latest Theatre-in-Education production on at the Town Hall is already a sell out!

It has been written and directed by Arts Centre Director Daniel Austin and features a cast of four professional actors playing an ancient Indian King, a nurse, a mother and a soldier who with the help of two teams of local children explore what war means both in the past and today. They look at the issues of conflict, territory, history and sovereignty, as well as conflict resolution and peace.

After performing at the Town Hall from this Thursday until Saturday 1 November they will start a tour of the Island’s primary schools.

Director Daniel Austin said: "Anticipating a world premiere of a play that you have written and directed is always very exciting. 'The Great Warrior' has been over two years in-the-making and, after only ten days’ of rehearsal, it is incredible to experience actors, the designer and the stage manager bringing the piece to life.

“I couldn’t have wished for a more creative and imaginative start to the rehearsal process and I can’t wait for the opening night and to begin touring around the Island’s primary schools.”

Tickets are £12 and £7 for students and are available from the Box Office on 700444.
