Helping hand from the Co-op

Monday 05 January 2015

A Co-op charity fund that gave out £16,000 in donations last year is now looking for people to come forward and let them know how they can make a difference in 2015.

The Co-operative Society Helping Hands Fund has been going for 21 years, and has benefitted thousands of people in the Channel Islands since it was established. Last year, recipients in Jersey included £1,500 for The Stroke Association to cover branding for an ambulance, £345 for the Art in the Frame Foundation to offer art-textile opportunities to youths, and £300 for new toys, roleplay equipment and mats for Friday Fun Mothers and Toddlers.

And now the Co-op want people to let them know by 31 January what they should focus on this year.

Jim Plumley, the Co-op’s Chief Commercial Officer, said: “Each year the Channel Islands Co-operative Society gives thousands of pounds to worthy charities and organisations which need a helping hand.

“As a local business, we are proud to support the communities within which we operate and this is just one of many ways that we do that. We want to hear from charities, schools, clubs, welfare groups, trusts and organisations which will really benefit from being a recipient of the Channel Islands Co-operative Society Helping Hands fund.”
