The Reds will be sticking their oars in at the weekend to defend their title in this year's Willis & AXA 49th Sark2Jersey.
Over 200 rowers will be taking part in the hotly-contested inter-insular and Guernsey will be hoping the tide has turned for them after losing the race last year for the first time in eight years.
All the competitors will set off from Sark's Dixcart Bay just after 11am, rowing across what can be rough open water to the Paternosers reef where they will turn and follow Jersey's north coast. By the time they reach the finish line in Bonne Nuit Bay at lunchtime they will have put in about 19 nautical miles.
A mother and daughter are hoping to keep it in the family when they go head-to-head in the singles. Enya Satchwell who is a graduate of the Moore Stephens Youth Academy will be taking on her mum Rosemary Satchwell – a one time Round Island record holder.
Rosemary said: “I’m very proud of Enya, but youth and fitness is only part of the S2J story, I’m not intending to be behind her when we get to The Paternosters turn.”
The 49th Sark to Jersey is being sponsored by Willis Real Estate Practice and AXA. Willis’ Edward Brown said: "We were so impressed with the event last year, we truly believe that we are involved in a top, blue riband event – we wish all the competitors the best of luck.
"We might be experts in risk management, but we are not going to try to predict the inter-insular result.”
Jersey Captain Clive Russell who is competing in the mixed quad class said: “This will be another great sporting event for Jersey, a brilliant curtain raiser for the NatWest Island Games as we again welcome top athletes to the Island. I'd like to see Bonne Nuit pier and beach full of Red and White to cheer all our crews home.”
You can get a good look at the race from the cliff paths at Devil’s Hole, Sorel Point, Ronez, New North Road and Fremont Point and if you want to cheer them on, the winners should be turning the Cheval Rock at Bonne Nuit at about 1pm on Saturday.
