Inquests were this morning opened into the deaths of the father and son killed in a suspected hit-and-run.
Dean Lowe (48) and his 11-year-old son, Charlie, were hit by a vehicle as they walked along Rue de Fauvic in the direction of St. Clement’s Church on the evening of Saturday 5 August.
During two brief hearings lasting a combined total of 13 minutes, with no family members in attendance, Deputy Viscount Mark Harris approved the release of Dean and Charlie's bodies in order that their funerals could take place.
Police Coroner's Officer Kate Falle said that both had been pronounced dead in the Accident and Emergency Department at the General Hospital in the hours following the collision: Dean at 23:15 and Charlie at 00:01.
Advocate Harris confirmed that a man had been arrested in connection with the incident.
The 28-year-old man – who has not been named – was arrested in St. Helier on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, and failing to stop and report the collision and later released on bail to allow for further investigations to be carried out.

Advocate Harris adjourned both inquests pending the outcome of the police investigation into what happened.
When Dean and Charlie were named by police officers, there was an outpouring of condolences and tributes on social media celebrating the "hero" dad and his "charismatic" son.

A fundraising page was set up in memory of the pair, with the aim of "having a positive impact in the island for performing arts" – one of Dean and Charlie's "passions in life".
The initial aim of the page was to raise £25,000 but, at the time of writing, it had almost reached the £40,000 mark.
