Four people had to be evacuated from their home last night after part of the property collapsed in a land slide.
Firefighters were called out to a landslide at the property on La Route de la Cote in St Martin at 11.30 pm to find part of the wall had collapsed causing extensive damage to the garage underneath and breaking gas pipes.
Luckily no-one was hurt, and the occupants were moved to safety while the area was cordoned off and Jersey Gas worked to cut off the gas supply to the property to make the area safe.
Parts of the building and surrounding area are still unstable and the stretch of road is still closed from the junction of Mont de la Guerande by The Crab Shack to the junction with Les Charriers d’Anne Port by the old Jeffrey’s Leap tearoom.
It’s likely to stay closed for several days while engineers assess the damage and check to see whether there's a chance of further slippage.
Watch Commander Richard Ryan said: “Due to parts of the property being unstable the road will remain closed until the area has been made safe.”
The police have asked drivers to avoid the area if they possibly can.
