Jersey Sport opens website to clubs and associations

Sunday 08 April 2018

Local clubs and associations are now able to have their own listings page and promote their events on the Jersey Sport website.

A new section has been designed on the website to pull together sports information in a handy and easy-to-navigate one-stop-shop.

Clubs and associations are now being now to sign-up on the website. Their contact details will be listed as part of sports directory available to everyone. They will also be able to submit and promote their events and activities, publish their own new stories and advertise jobs as well as coaching and volunteering opportunities.

Catriona McAllister, Jersey Sport CEO, said: “This is a really exciting development for us and for the wider sporting community in Jersey. During the process which led to the creation of Jersey Sport, islanders highlighted that there was a need to have a single reference point for sporting activities and events. People can search by sport, or by location, so you can look up what’s going on in your area on any given day or find out when sports events are taking place. It makes it easy for someone looking to take part in sport to find out what’s available, where it happens and how to join in.

“Each group that registers can have multiple admins, making it easy for sports organisations to add their activities and to make sure the information remains current.”

It is expected that the pages will become the most used on the Jersey Sport website. James Faudemer from the Tennis Hub in St Clement, one of the first clubs to submit information, commented: "This is a simple and effective new way for people to find out the numerous sporting opportunities that are available in the island. This can only help further increase participation in all sports.”

Jersey Sport has also appealed to clubs and associations to help shape the future direction of sport in the island as part of a series of workshops. Three sessions will be held over the next two months to help Jersey Sport prepare the “Inspiring an Active Jersey” island-wide strategy, which will be released later this year.

James Tilley, Sports Partnership Manager for Jersey Sport, explained: “We want to work with the sports to work out how to best support them. Sport has a huge role to play and these workshops are a vital part of the consultation process. We need to learn more about the role that clubs and associations believe they can play in delivering the new strategy, and what support we can put in place to ensure sports thrive in Jersey.

Each workshop will include an overview of the plans for the strategy, followed by discussions led by the Sport and Recreation Alliance. Those will be focused around three key questions:

  1.  What role can sports play in delivering the new strategy for sport in Jersey?

  2. What barriers are there to sports fulfilling this role, and what support do sports need from Jersey Sport to be able to overcome this?

  3. How should Jersey Sport develop and implement this support?

Club and association representatives are encouraged to register for the sessions via the new Events pages on the Jersey Sport website or by searching on Eventbrite. There are three dates available, 22 April at Jersey Rugby Club, 11 May and 12 May at Jersey Hospice's Training Suite.
