Jersey’s Caring Cook offers more support to thousands of parents via Mums in Jersey

Her charity has helped more than 50 families here and now Caring Cook Jersey’s founder Melissa Nobrega is just a post away from helping thousands more local parents.

Melissa, who is this year’s Inspirational Woman of the Year Award winner, has become the new 'Admin' for the Mums in Jersey Facebook page.

The page was set up in 2011 by Katherine Lockett as a place for parents and carers to connect, share, support and meet each other and now has almost 6,000 followers.

Katherine has since moved back to the UK with her children to be closer to her family and although she's still very much involved and as passionate about the group, she really needs Melissa's help to keep it running.

Melissa said: “With me having a newborn at the same time it was launched, the page was an invaluable source of support for me personally, when raising both of my children.

“Some days it was a home of sanity, comfort and reassurance, knowing that everything I was experiencing, others were too – which is part of what makes the page so popular.

“The popularity of the page hasn’t waned at all, in the past 5 years, and knowing a bit about how hard it can be to reach people with your posts on Facebook, Mums in Jersey have no trouble at all.  The page has nearly 6,000 followers, our posts have reached over 7,500 and nearly 2,500 have engaged with the page, this week alone.

“Mums know it’s a place where they can either post themselves, or post anonymously, to have their parenting questions answered by the best people to answer them – other Mums, Dads and carers.

“There is a real sense of trust within the page, and everyone who uses it is kind, supportive and non-judgmental, which we all need when facing the journey through parenthood.”

You'll find the page here.
