As he gets ready to retire after nearly a decade driving three Lieutenant-Governors around the island, chauffeur Martin Shirley told Express about his duties, selling the iconic J4 numberplate, and the one time he was late for an important pick-up...

Martin Shirley (66) was one of 82 applicants when he got the job in 2014 – and he was the first chauffeur not to come from a military background.

Martin had previously been a taxi driver and a chauffeur at weddings and funerals.
