Swimmers, golfers, fencers and sailors are among the athletes from Jersey and Guernsey who have been able to go places – literally – as a result of support from a local airline.
A total of 546 flights were provided by Blue Islands during 2023, with sportspeople and charities in both islands among the main beneficiaries – and applications now invited for 2024.
Channel Islands Air Search was one of the charities to benefit from free flights, with pilots and engineers able to travel as part of the voluntary organisation's rapid response air search and rescue service.
Two charities working to support families - Brighter Futures in Jersey and Bright Beginnings in Guernsey – were able to stage collaborative events after inter-island travel laid on by Blue Islands.
Pictured: Ryan Le Monnier was able to travel to Exeter to compete in a Riding for the Disabled regional dressage competition earlier this year thanks to Blue Islands flights.
The airline's Chief Executive, Rob Veron, said: "Since initial launch in 2019, we’re proud to continually support the Channel Island community with flight funding.
"Whether it’s sport, art, enrichment or development, islanders have been able to pursue their individual and shared ambitions through this scheme and we look forward to supporting many more beneficiaries in 2024.”
