Major crowdfunder to help ‘high risk’ islanders

Wednesday 25 March 2020

A major crowdfunding campaign to raise £60,000 to help GPs remotely monitor the health of ‘high risk’ islanders has launched.

The funds will be used to purchase 20 kits, each worth £3,600, that will assist GP’s “in the early identification of patients who urgently require intervention”.

The 20 kits would help treat approximately 60 high-risk patients at a cost of approximately £40 per patient per day over a course of three months, the page explains.

The funding appeal comes after the Care Hub Jersey Ltd – which is run by Dr Kirstie Greig, a Consultant in Emergency Medicine, and an ITU nurse – contacted health analytics platform MySense to add pulse oximetry, respiratory rate and temperature checks to their services.

This would prevent “unnecessary face to face contact & promote social isolation, providing a service that traditionally could only be obtained in person,” the GoFundMe page notes.

“We cannot risk those working relentlessly at the frontline of containing COVID-19 to become infected themselves.”

So far, islanders have donated over £2,000, and donations continue to rise every hour.
