Man suffers face injuries in alleged mugging by bike rider

Thursday 04 January 2024

A man was left needing hospital treatment after he was allegedly attacked and had his jewellery, watch, phone and trainers stolen by a man on a bike.

Police are now appealing for information following the alleged assault and robbery, which was reported to have taken place near Millennium Park on Monday (1 January), between 06:00 and 06:15.

A man walking through the park was approached by another man on a bike, and the two had an "argumentative conversation", officers said.

The man walked off and the man on the bike reportedly followed him and assaulted him, leaving him with facial injuries that needed treatment in the Emergency Department.

The Force said he also stole the man's gold chain, black Timex watch and blue iPhone 13 Max Pro. His Nike trainers were also taken but were later recovered in the park.

The alleged assault took place on the corner of Gas Place opposite Gas Place Café.

The cyclist left the area on his bike and the victim walked along Common Lane.

The suspect is described as an Asian male of stocky build with a shaved head around the back and sides.

He was wearing a dark top with a wide white horizontal stripe across it, which was possibly a Tommy Hilfiger or Ralph Lauren top.

The suspect was riding a mountain bike with rim stickers, front suspension and disc brakes.
