Man in 60s denies indecency with child

Monday 12 November 2018

A man in his 60s, who had to be arrested in the UK and brought back to Jersey, has denied allegations that he sexually abused a child 30 years ago.

Robert George Carrel (63) appeared in the Royal Court on Friday to be charged with eight counts of sexual misconduct with a female child under the age of 10 between 1988 and 1990.

Jersey-born Mr Carrel had been residing in the UK for some time. However, in August an arrest warrant was obtained and he was brought back to the island by States of Jersey Police officers.

Appearing in the Royal Court before the Bailiff, Sir William Bailhache, he pleaded not guilty to all eight counts - six of which state he procured acts of indecency and two of which accuse him of indecent assault.

Defence Advocate James Bell informed the Court of his client’s not guilty pleas and a date was set for trial on 18 March next year.

Mr Carrel will be held in custody until the trial.
