WATCH: Musical pair get playing for neighbours

Wednesday 08 April 2020

A musical local couple have played a 'concert' in their front garden to lift their neighbours' spirits during lockdown.

Alice and Jon Jefferson made the most of the nice weather last Sunday by setting up their instruments outside for an impromptu show.

Jon told Express that the couple got the idea after seeing fellow musicians do the same in videos. “It just seemed like a nice thing to lift spirits and bring hope to people,” he explained.

A keyboard player and a guitarist respectively, Alice and Jon have their own instruments at home, but before Jersey went into lockdown, they had also grabbed some equipment from the Freedom Church where Jon is a youth and worship leader.

The couple waited for nice weather to set everything up in their front garden. They played a selection of popular music from the last 20 years, as well as some older tunes for around 30 minutes.

Video: Alice and Jon filmed by one of their neighbours.

While the couple simply hoped to do something nice for their neighbours, they didn’t expect to see so many join in - from a safe distance of course.

“What was really unexpected was the amount of people that came out, talking across the walls, taking out their chairs and glasses of wine,” Jon said.

“People were having conversations that had not had conversations together before.”

While neighbours have already asked for a repeat performance this Sunday, Jon says they might have to wait a little bit longer.

“We’ll see if the weather is nice!”
