New British kids whodunnit to premiere in Jersey for charity

Thursday 04 February 2016

The director of a new British children’s whodunit film with local connections that premieres in Jersey for charity later this month hopes it will get youngsters off their tablets and phones and out having adventures again like they used to.

If you grew up with Nancy Drew or the Hardy Boys - Who Killed Nelson Nutmeg? this will take you back - a film aimed at six to ten-year-olds that is being screened at Cineworld on Sunday 21 February to raise money for Jersey Hospice Care.

The film, that tells the story of four children at a summer camp who suspect that the park’s mascot has been murdered, stars Bonnie Wright – the actress who played Ginny Weasley in the Harry Potter films.

Tim Clague, a BAFTA-nominated writer and award-winning director, said the team behind it wanted to bring back British films for British kids.

He said: “Who Killed Nelson Nutmeg? is a contemporary story for today’s children, but it will remind mums and dads of the kind of films they watched as youngsters and hopefully get kids off their tablets and phones and encourage them to have an adventure.”

Local children at the premiere will get the chance to have their photo taken with Nelson Nutmeg himself and meet the film’s producer, Jersey author Jan Caston who will be signing copies of the book she’s written to accompany the film called Who Needs Friends, Nelson Nutmeg?

“It's such a pleasure to hold a Jersey Premiere of Who Killed Nelson Nutmeg?, as the film was mostly funded by a group of local residents. Like me, they want to bring back fun-filled British films for all the family to enjoy together.

“My husband, one of the Associate Producers of the film, died during its shoot. He was cared for by Jersey Hospice Care and it is to his memory that the film is dedicated.

"The book is a prequel - and additional -story to the film which introduces the characters.  Aimed at good readers of primary school age (e.g. the Harry Potter fan base) it's a fun-packed story about real kids with kids as the main characters."

There are just 250 tickets up for grabs at £5 for children and £8 for adults and you can buy them here.

The film starts on Sunday 21 February at 3 pm.
