Parents get switched on for Christmas

Wednesday 03 December 2014

Mums and dads are getting tech savvy ready for Christmas so they know how to manage any new devices Santa might bring.

Dozens of parents have signed up to go to “Santa’s Tech Grotto” being run at Digital Jersey’s hub tomorrow afternoon and evening to get some expert digital advice.

They’ll learn how to put in parental controls on devices and pick up some top tips about how to manage them at home, how to avoid internet addiction and what apps to watch out for.

Digital Jersey Director Carla Harris said: “Following on from the success at the Techfair, I am delighted that due to demand we are able to run another digital parenting event in the run up to Christmas to support e-safety and help our community become a digital enabled society.”

Education’s E-Safety & E-Learning Manager Jon Tarrant said: “Santa’s Tech Grotto will help inform parents about how to use parental controls on devices and keep their children safe when using the Internet. As well as practical hands-on demonstrations there will be advice about setting boundaries for using digital devices and how to reduce the risks associated with misuse of technology.”
