Pensioner denies child sexual assault charges

Friday 04 November 2016

The trial continued this morning of an 85-year-old retired farmer, who is accused of sexually abusing a teenage boy.

Bryan John Le Brocq is charged with eight counts of sexual assault on the alleged victim, who was 13 when it is claimed the abuse started. He denies all the charges.

Mr Le Brocq was questioned in the dock over whether he had any sexual interest in children.

Defending Advocate Heidi Heath asked him about two previous girlfriends, then said: “Have you had relationships with any other women?”

Mr Le Brocq said: “Good God yes, Plenty of women.”

Advocate Heath said: “Have you ever had any sexual interest in men?”

“No, never. I have a lot of male friends but I’ve never had a sexual interest in them,” replied Mr Le Brocq.

Advocate Heath next asked: “Have you ever had any sexual interest in children?”

Mr Le Brocq said: “Good God no. That’s not me.”

He was asked whether he had indulged in sexual relations with the alleged victim.

He said: “No way. Like heck I did, no way. No sexual interest at all. He was quite a good kid. He never insulted me and I never fell out with him, only at the end, when it was time for him to leave.”

The court heard Advocate Heath ask the police officer in charge of the investigation why he had not tried to contact Mr Le Brocq’s previous girlfriends to determine his sexuality.

Crown Advocate David Steenson asked the officer whether during their searches of Mr Le Brocq’s address they found any pornographic material.

Advocate Steenson said: “You found stories about child pornography, is that correct?”

“Yes,” replied the officer.

 The trial continues.
