Record number of students to be quizzed on some great moments

A record number of Channel Island students will be pitting their wits against each other this year in the big University Challenge-style school quiz.

28 Jersey and 19 Guernsey schools will have students battling it out in the De Putron Challenge in November all looking to make it through to the inter-island showdown.

This year’s theme is ‘great moments’ and Channel Television presenter Rob Moore will be back as Quiz Mater to question the students on everything from great moments in sport and art to notable historic achievements and great discoveries.

As well as the more conventional general knowledge rounds, the students will also face a picture round which encourages teammates to work together.

Ana Leaf Foundation Trustee Hayley de Putron said: We want to show children that academic prowess is something that should be celebrated and the De Putron Challenge aims to engage with the island’s youth in a way that is both educational and fun.

“It is great to see that each year more and more Channel Island schools sign up to compete. The De Putron Challenge really highlights how smart Channel Island children are.”

The Jersey challenge is on Monday 16 November, a week after Guernsey’s, at the Radisson Blu Hotel.

The winning schools from the Year 6 and Year 8 competition from each Island will go on to compete against one another in Jersey on Monday 23 November for the chance to win the well-contested Inter-Island titles.

Last year saw Victoria College clinch the Year 6 Jersey and Inter-Island trophies as well as winning the Post-16 Inter-Island trophy and Beaulieu Convent School took home the Year 8 title.

The inter-island final will be streamed live online on Monday 23 November.
