Jersey's 'Lockdown Hero' has raised more than £1,600 to give Jersey children and families a brighter future in his latest good deed.

Dominic Basilio's 'Mini Day' at Salon Phoenix allowed children to be pampered at different stations in aid of Brighter Futures.

Dom won Express’s Lockdown Hero Awards, which were sponsored by TMF, in 2020 after working with the Salvation Army to set up its food bank during the first covid lockdown.

Shocked to learn through his experience “how many people needed help” in Jersey, Dom has since been inspired to continue his good deeds.

As well as going on to play Santa and the Easter Bunny for local children, he also previously started a drive to collect 1,000 bottles to help raise funds for local special needs school Mont à L’Abbé.

The Summer Mini Day was his most recent fundraiser and it took place on Monday 25 July from 9am-7pm at his salon, Studio Phoenix.

At the event, the donation was £20 per child and they could access an unlimited number of pamper stations, including hair chalks, braiding, feather extensions, glitter, styling, mini manicures and more.

Dom told Express that the aim of the day was “to make giving back fun while introducing charity to children.”

He added: “I’m supporting Brighter Futures because they do so much for so many families, not just the children but the parents also and I know many people personally who they’ve helped and made a big difference in their lives."

The event was fully-booked, with over 100 children attending, and there was even a cancellation list.

Dom said: "It was such a huge success and the kids absolutely loved it!

"I’m going to make it a more regular event on occasions, so Halloween and Christmas will all be themed."
