Most people have a view on what makes the perfect burger, whether it's the toppings, the sauce, the freshness of the bun or the quality of the ingredients - but now one group of students at Samarès School have the chance to put their ideas to the test...and actually see them on sale in a town restaurant.
JB’s Brewhouse has unveiled a 'design-a-burger' contest with the school, which they say “...should probably have come with a health warning!”
Year 6 students at Samarès were given lessons about “local food, farming waste and the Jersey herd” by Marcus Calvani, who is the co-owner of the Be Served Group, which includes JB’s.
Local seasonal ingredients are encouraged in the entries for the contest, and each burger will have to be named and costed. Students will create their own marketing materials for their designs, then pitch their ideas to JB’s in a “Dragon’s Den style event."
The triumphant burger will be offered on the JB’s menu for a month, with its creator winning a £100 gift voucher as well as being invited into the kitchen to help cook the first one. JB’s have also pledged £2 from each burger special sold towards the Samarès School leavers' ball.
Students will be competing in the challenge as part of their geography and design technology learning for this term.
“We are so excited for this project”, Samarès School wrote on social media. “We can’t wait to sample the winning creation!”
