A team of six intrepid swimmers with a combined age of 347 have completed a charity relay swim across the English Channel in 14-and-a-half hours.

The Jersey 'Sea Amigos' trained throughout the cold winter months for their relay, which took place on Sunday, swapping their sombreros for goggles to raise £5,000 for Maz's Canine and Feline Sanctuary, and Kim Halliwell Animal Rescue.

The team is made up of six islanders - three of whom are 60.

They are: David Le Clercq, Senator Steve Pallett, Julia Aston, Neil Fauderner, Fred Maynard, and Wendy Trehiou, who completed her sixth solo crossing of the Channel last year.

The Sea Amigos explained on their fundraising page that their chosen charities save "animals from neglect, abuse, abandonment and in certain circumstances potential euthanasia.

"Both organisations have been carefully selected for their outstanding work in saving the lives of both dogs and cats in the Almeria region of Spain.

"Both have rehomed animals on many occasions here in Jersey, Europe and around the world."

So far, the group has raised £2,399 towards its £5,000 target.
