"Largest ever" Christmas market on its way

Sunday 02 December 2018

Two local market makers have joined forces to host what's being billed as Jersey's "largest ever" Christmas market next week.

Between 6 and 9 December, as well as 13 and 16 December, Simply Christmas and Genuine Jersey will come together to host over 50 craftsmen, artists, designers and producers.

Simply Christmas previously held their event at the Greve de Lecq barracks. This year, organisers teamed up with Genuine Jersey to present one Christmas market at the latter's central town location in the Royal Square under the 'Simply Christmas' name.

As well as the different stalls offering gifts inspiration ahead of the holidays, there will also be street performers, local bands, choirs and musicians providing entertainment throughout the weekends. Royston the magician and the Morris dancers will be among the many performers present.

There will also be various activities including a Christmas hunt, a dedicated crafts area and a virtual reality experience.

Sarah Taylor, organiser of Simply Christmas, said she was "thrilled" to be working with Genuine Jersey on an event she promised would be "infused with festive spirit and come away amazed by the creative talent within our small Island.”

John Garton, Chief Executive Officer of Genuine Jersey, added: “Making the event bigger and more inclusive for exhibitors will only help showcase the wide range of talent that we have on the Island. We would encourage as many people as possible to consider buying their gifts locally to support these small businesses and the local economy.”

Market-goers will also be able to take part in a raffle taking place to help raise money for children's charity Variety. Each stall holder at the market will be donating a product towards one of three hampers up for grabs in the raffle. The Genuine Jersey Products Association has also received funding from the States Growth Department to support this annual event.
