Spot famous scarecrows for charity

Saturday 24 May 2014

Islanders will get to see a number of famous people lining the Railway Walk this weekend - but rather than signing autographs, they will be scaring off birds for charity!

Local groups, schools and businesses have been busy creating famous people and characters for Family Nursing & Home Care’s first-ever Scarecrow Trail, which runs until Monday.

You can follow the trail all the way from St Aubin to Corbière and there’s a cash prize draw for anyone who can spot and name all the scarecrows on display.

FNHC’s Fundraising Manager Ivo Le Maistre Smith said: “Anyone can get involved in the Family Nursing and Home Care Scarecrow Trail by following the trail and identifying the scarecrows. This Scarecrow Trail will be the first of its kind in Jersey and will be an annual fundraising event. We think it will be great fun for all of the family and will help us to raise much needed funds for the charity.”

You can also vote for your favourite scarecrow and help its creator win the FNHC Scarecrow Trail Award.

If you want to get on the trail, you can buy a map and an answer sheet from Le Bas Centre, Gervaise Le Gros and from Andersen’s DIY in Quennevais Precinct or you can turn up on the day and buy one on the Railway Walk.

Your answers and your vote for the best scarecrow have to be in by 31 May.

FNHC was set up in 1907 and provides a variety of nursing services for Islanders from birth to the end of their lives. The charity has a team of health visitors, school and children’s nurses, district and specialist nurses and helps people in their homes. It needs to raise £2 million a year.
