States Greffe “let down” by lockdown leak

Friday 01 May 2020

A member of staff at the States Greffe is being disciplined after apparently leaking confidential information about the island’s release from lockdown.

The leaked information came following a private online briefing for States Members about Jersey’s ‘Safe Exit’ held on Microsoft Teams.

A screenshot believed to be from the briefing – which suggested that islanders will soon be able to spend up to four hours outdoors, and see two people from outside their household – was last night circulated widely on WhatsApp and other social media platforms.

States Greffier Dr Mark Egan emailed States Members this morning to apologise for the leak, which he confirmed had come from his department.

The member of staff involved, who has not been identified, is now subject to a disciplinary process.

Contacted by Express, Dr Egan commented: “I feel very let down as the States Greffe prides itself on the integrity and professionalism of our staff and our ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.”
