Some of the world’s best cricketers will be action at the Grainville Ground today helping a local charity raise awareness for victims of sexual assault.

Charlotte Edwards CBE, Lydia Greenway, Kyle Jarvis and Sean Ervine are all batting in the Island's first Stumps & Thumps Pro-Am Cricket Tournament for Jersey Action Against Rape.

JAAR Chairperson Alick McIntosh said: "The real aim is to demonstrate to survivors of sexual assault that they are not alone, united we stand with them. We want to raise the profile of JAAR so that victims can see that this isn't a dirty thing that needs to be swept under the carpet, if you are victim there is somewhere to come, I want it to be high profile to break down the stigma attached to victims of sexual assault."

The mini tournament kicks off at 10:00 when four corporate teams with one international player per team battle it out for a place in the finals at 13:30.

At 15:15 you can see some of the Island's top players in action when the JAAR Pro-Am team take on Jersey invitational XI 20:20 for an exhibition match.

Mr Macintosh said: "From a sporting point of view, it's going to be a very strong, competitive match."

The sexual assault support charity was set up by rape survivor Cassidy McIntosh at the beginning of last year and offers support to victims through its helpline and free specialised counselling service.

Mr McIntosh said: "We've had 80 clients since we launched coming to us for one to one specialised counselling."

Next year the charity wants to focus on educating sixth formers and plans to go into schools to talk to students about consensual sex and that "no means no".

Entrance to the Ground is free today and there will be live music and a BBQ but if you want the VIP treatment, there's a special marquee for spectators who want to meet and chat with the top players. Tickets are £30 for adults and £10 for children under 14 and you can book yours by emailing here.
