Two men have been charged for their alleged roles in smuggling cigarettes and tobacco into Jersey.

Aaran Howard Eastwood (32) from Jersey is charged with nine counts of fraudulently evading duty on tobacco and cigarettes at the airport between October 2020 and October 2021, totalling around £24,650 in duty evaded.

He was also charged with the importation of a small quantity of diazepam tablets, a Class C drug.

His co-accused, Antonio Paulino De Andrade (60), from Madeira, was charged with knowingly acquiring tobacco goods over the same period, chargeable with duty that had not been paid.

The two men appeared in the Magistrate’s Court on Friday and were released on bail until 11 November, when they will appear in the Royal Court.
