Highlands seeks "inspirational" new head

Thursday 13 February 2020

Highlands College and University College Jersey are looking for an "inspirational" new principal to help turn the education institution into a "world-class" facility.

The recruitment drive comes following the previous head's retirement last year.

Highlands describes the position as exciting and strategically significant, saying that a current or aspiring principal with experience in the further education sector and an ability to build on the post-16 college's strong foundation is required to fill it.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a team of over 200 full-time and 150 part-time dedicated staff members at the institution, which has more than 5,000 enrolments a year on its range of vocational and technical courses, as well as a number of apprenticeships, professional development courses and higher education qualifications.

No salary details are included in the job advert, which is listed on a UK site, but it is described as "competitive" and coming alongside a "generous" relocation package.

"Highlands College plays a key role in the post-16 education for Jersey and we are seeking an experienced senior leader, with clear strategic vision and a very strong track record of student achievement and success to lead the college to its next level of success," Board of Governors Chair Paul Masterton explained.

"The college engages in partnership and collaboration with other educational institutions, the business community and third-sector organisations and contributes strongly to the Government of Jersey's aspiration to create a vibrant and skilled workforce for the future."

The closing date for applications is Sunday 15 March 2020.
