Around 400 people gathered in Jersey’s Royal Square last night in a special candlelight vigil to remember those affected by last week’s suicide bomb attack in Manchester.
After a series of short speeches from the Bailiff, the acting Dean, and Senator Andrew Green, there was a minute’s silence, a short prayer, the release of balloons and the laying of flowers.
The Bailiff, William Bailhache said “terrorism should never be allowed to win”, and Senator Andrew Green – speaking on behalf of all States members – said the people of Manchester needed “our support and prayers, now and in the weeks and months to come”.
Twenty-two people were killed in the attack and 102 others were injured. The nation has been on a heightened state of alert since. Police have arrested about a dozen people and say their investigations are on going.
