The five people diagnosed with covid-19 in Jersey have all recently “returned from an affected country”, Health officials have confirmed.

Senior officers say that, as far as they’re aware, there has been “no case of transmission within the island”.

The update came during a press conference from senior Health officials on the island’s response to the outbreak.

The conference saw a panel comprising Director General for Health Caroline Landon, Medical Director Dr Patrick Armstrong and Jersey’s Chief Nurse Rose Naylor respond to questions from the local media on the corona virus outbreak.

It follows confirmation today (Monday 16 March) that Jersey now has five positive cases of corona virus in the island. These individuals – now confirmed to include an individual with a child at De La Salle College – are all said to be “well” and “self-isolating at home”.

The government helpline (01534 445566) for those with concerns they might have the virus is open from 08:00 until 20:00 every day.

The island has also opened a dedicated testing facility. Jersey people are being asked to self-isolate if they have any flu-like symptoms, even if they haven’t returned from an affected country.

However, only those who have been directly referred via the corona virus helpline will be swabbed at the island’s recently opened testing centre in Five Oaks.

Express was live at the press conference with the senior health officials.
