How I unwind: Jade Knight, former Welsh rugby international

Friday 24 February 2023

A former Welsh rugby and touch international, Jade Knight now works as a midwife and coach... but what does she do to unwind when she has the time?

As well as running Birthable, which supports mothers through their pregnancy and after, Jade also coaches islanders at Crossfit Valiant.

She previously played for Saracens and captained Richmond in the premier 15s - which is considered the best women’s club rugby premiership in the world – returned to rugby after giving berth to her son Emrys, whom she affectionately calls Little Knight, who is now eight years old and loves kickboxing.

Having been frustrated with the lack of support both from both professional sporting bodies and from gyms to enable mums to return to training, she founded Birthable to provide antenatal/postnatal exercise classes where mums can bring their little ones, as well as nutrition advice and personal training, private antenatal education and baby massage.

Between her work as a midwife, Birthable and Crossfit Valiant classes and her Little Knight, her schedule is packed. When she does find the time to relax, she has a few favourite things to do...

I go...

St Ouen's bay

...to watch the sun set in St. Ouen's Bay with a takeaway pizza and washing it down with Heineken Zero.

Not much can beat this, especially in the Jersey summer.

I eat...

...takeaway - any kind of takeaway!

However, generally I just love food, especially if I haven’t had to cook it for myself.

Jersey really does have some amazing restaurants.

I drink...

wine

...pink rosé cava.

I love a bit of bubbles and everyone enjoys a bit of luxury… if only I had a hot tub to enjoy drinking it in!

I listen to...

music listen headphones

...some country tunes or alternative rock.

I love...

...paddleboarding with my son.

My favourite place to launch from is Beauport and of course we have to take snacks with us.

I also absolutely love walking and cwtching Blaze, my Cavapoo puppy.

Training for me is more of a daily essential rather something I do to unwind. It is my way of recharging and enhances mental wellbeing.
